3 Smoothie Recipes That Helped Me Reduce Brain Fog
Are you getting enough fruits and veggies?
Enjoy this article, but please don’t look to me for future nutritional advice.
I ate a cheeseburger at a concert last night with a Philly cheesesteak egg roll on the side.
Why am I sharing smoothie recipes?
Because I wanted to write about something different this week! And it’s my blog, so you’re gonna have to suck it up for a few minutes.
Jk.
The real reason is that I made a goal to eat more brain food this year and reduce brain fog so I could get the most out of each day.
To do that, I need to incorporate more superfoods into my diet—foods packed with vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. The problem is that it takes a lot of work to cram superfoods into all your meals. I mean, it’s possible, but I just don’t have the time or the skill to do it yet.
That’s where a blender helps. Smoothies conveniently mix a variety of nuts, fruits, and veggies, which help round out my diet.
Here are my three favorite recipes I’ve learned so far.
1.) Berry Banana Shake
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, only 1 in 10 Americans eat enough fruits and veggies. Sipping a smoothie like this can help reach the 7 servings recommended per day.
Tips:
Use frozen fruit as much as possible. This gives your smoothie a nice chill and thickness. Ice cubes work, but they water down the flavor.
Use Almond Milk or Oat Milk. They’re a little healthier than dairy, especially if you get into a daily smoothie routine.
Ingredients
· 1 cup frozen strawberries
· 1 banana (sliced)
· 1 cup frozen blueberries
· ½ cup frozen raspberries
· ½ cup vanilla protein
· 6 walnuts
· 2 tablespoons chai seeds
· 1 tablespoon of honey
Instructions
The order in which you put in your ingredients matters, but it depends on the brand of the blender, so refer to those instructions. Otherwise, combine fruits, nuts, and honey and blend them into a smoothie.
2.) Peanut Butter Chocolate Power Mashup
This one is great for post-workout or a day starter. It packs a lot of protein and kicks cravings, so you don’t feel as hungry throughout the day. Nuts are super underappreciated. Chai Seeds contain Mega 4 healthy fats, and walnuts contain antioxidants and boost brain function.
Tips
Use organic peanut butter that contains mostly peanuts without the other stuff like preservatives.
Ingredients
· 1 banana. Sliced and frozen.
· 1 cup of frozen strawberries
· 2 scoops of peanut butter
· ½ cup of chocolate protein
· 6 Walnuts or 2 tablespoons of chai seeds
· 1 tablespoon of honey
· 1 cup of almond milk or oat milk
Instructions
Don’t be shy about the peanut butter. Go wild and scoop a few whallops from the jar. Toss in almond or oat milk, fruits, chocolate protein, and nuts. Blend and enjoy.
3.) Leafy Green Super Shake
If you’re like me and forget to eat your veggies, this one is for you. It's an easy way to get more kale and spinach into your diet.
Tips
Just like fruits, try freezing your kale and spinach. When you get home from the grocery store, get a large container and toss the veggies into the freezer.
Ingredients
· 1 cup of almond or oat milk
· 1 cup of frozen mangos or bananas
· A handful of spinach and kale mix
· 2 tablespoons of chai seeds
· ½ cup of chocolate or vanilla protein
· 1 tablespoon of honey
Instructions
Pour in your oat or almond milk first, then add your veggies and fruits. Make sure your fruits and veggies are near the blade to prevent them from sticking to the sides. Blend and serve.
