Cate Blanchett Shares Her Secret to Creativity and What Might Be Stopping Yours
And it's simply magic!
Welcome to the golden age for creative side hustles—all thanks to the internet.
The internet also presents its own challenges. Mainly, you will eventually have to show your work. Anonymous views are one thing, but your friends, family, girlfriends, and boyfriends will also see your weird little side project.

It’s an embarrassing thought, but I found early on that it’s something you must overcome if you want to own a creative side hustle.
Here’s a trick I learned from Academy Award-winning actress and overall masterful person Cate Blanchett. During an interview on the popular YouTube series “Hot Ones” she shares her surprising philosophy on acting.
“I pretend like nobody is watching,” she says. “It’s the way I deal with the anxiety of it all because you have to have a sense of lack of consequence. If you’re going to embarrass yourself, and acting is embarrassing yourself a lot. You have to pretend no one is going to see it.”
I worried too much about what people would think when I started writing online.
It was my greatest hurdle.
But it’s like jumping in a cold swimming pool. It will suck initially, but once you do it, you’ll realize it’s not a big deal.
So, if you’re having trouble working up the courage to get started, take a lesson from one of the greatest actors ever and pretend like no one is watching.
