There will always be forces at work hell-bent on throwing you off your game.
The forces are different for everyone.
For Winston Churchill, it was a Nazi regime determined to flatten his country.
For us, it might be a micromanaging boss or a relationship on the rocks.
It helps to be anchored by something other than your day job or relationships.
What exactly? Anything that brings you joy, requires you to think, and centers you in a state of flow. Something that says to the world, I am much more than meets the eye. Nothing you say or do can take me away from my anchor.
Maybe it’s running.
Maybe it’s reading.
Maybe it’s baking.
I don’t know what I would do without writing. The entire process of entangling complicated thoughts and combining disparate ideas into words, and those words could make a difference in someone’s life.
It’s hard to explain how rewarding it is.
Because of writing, fearful moments in other areas of my life never hold much weight.
And want to know a secret? Fear shrinks when there’s less stake in the game.
What’s your anchor?
