One Surprising Thing I learnt About Community that Helped Grow My Side Business
In Angela Duckworth’s book Grit, she describes two ways one can achieve mastery: the hard way and the easy way.
The hard way is on your own.
Practice on your own.
Fail on your own.
Succeed on your own.
Make yourself accountable for your missed days or lack of work ethic.
The easy way is on a team.
To work with an army of Spartan warriors all marching towards the same goal.
A team that holds you accountable and pushes you further than you dreamed possible.
A creative side hustle doesn’t have to be as lonely as it sounds. I’m a part of Tom Keuglers LinkedIn writing group. We are a small club of Medium and LinkedIn writers who come together once a month to ask each other questions, talk about trends, and share ideas. We also keep a private slack channel where we post our work and seek feedback.
I published an eBook about six months ago. They were the first volunteers to read the dang thing and provide testimonials. I’d do the same for them—no questions asked.
Creative endeavors are lonely by nature, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other people out there with the same goals.
Seek them out.
