Nothing is more important than emotional intelligence in your twenties.
Why?
What other decade do you take the most criticism for your work or eat the most shit?
Not your teenage years when everyone coddles you and treats you like royalty.
Not your 30s or 40s either when you’re established and have enough wisdom to pass your knowledge to the next generation.
You will feel low in your twenties. You will have moments when you resent your mentor and the garbage work they’re forcing upon you. But always remember, this is where your opportunity lies. This is when the big magic occurs. This is when you build that gritty resilience that follows you for the rest of your life.
It was John D Rockefeller, talking about his time as a lowly bookkeeper’s assistant in Cleveland, who said:
“Oh, how blessed young people are who have to struggle for a foundation and beginning in life. I shall never cease to be grateful for the three and half years of apprenticeship and the difficulties to be overcome, all along the way.”
Have a great weekend!
